Everything We Know So Far About BBC's Dracula

Dracula is being brought back to our screens by the BBC in collaboration with Netflix with Sherlock creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss being brought in to produce the mini series.

The idea of the revival was first teased back in 2017 by Variety and since then we have patiently been waiting for any new updates on the adaptation.

Despite the first mention of the series being in 2017, the BBC only confirmed the news in October this year.

The BBC announced the synopsis: "Inspired by Bram Stoker's classic novel, the three feature length episodes will re-introduce the world to Dracula, the vampire who made evil sexy. In Transylvania in 1897, the blood-drinking Count is drawing his plans against Victorian London. And be warned: the dead travel fast."

Dracula will air on BBC One in the UK and on Netflix for those who don't have access to the channel however seen as though production hasn't even started yet no date has been announced.

It is likely it will be at least late 2019 or early 2020 before we get to catch up with our favourite vampire but we are sure it will be worth the wait.

So far, creators Moffat and Gatiss have only made one announced casting decision and they have started by casting Claes Bang as Dracula himself.

Bang will join the exclusive list of actors who have played the vampire and he will be in good company among Bela Lugosi, Christopher Lee, Gary Oldman and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Speaking about his new role the 51-year-old said: "I'm so excited that I get to dig into this iconic and super interesting character.

"Yes he's evil, but there's also so much more to him. He's charismatic, intelligent, witty and sexy.

"I realise that there's a lot to live up to with all the amazing people that have played him over the years, but I feel so privileged to be taking on this incredible character."

Speaking about Bang being cast as Dracula Piers Wenger, controller of BBC Drama, said that BBC One had "an outstanding new leading man" and that "Hell had a new boss".

The BBC's adaptation of Dracula will keep its Victorian setting as proved by the synopsis that was provided with the announcement of the new series.

"When Jonathan Harker is summoned to Transylvania to finalise a property deal for the mysterious Count Dracula, he stumbles upon an ancient evil he is unprepared to face," the synopsis for the latest edition of the book reads.

Adding: "When that evil escapes to England, the entire nation is suddenly under threat and only an aged vampire hunter, Professor Abraham Van Helsing, can put a stop to the bloodshed."

We just know it is going to be amazing.

Production hasn't started just yet so we will have to sit tight for a release date.
