Netflix premiered the first trailer for its latest horror series 'Ratched' earlier this month and since then, we've uncovered even more details about the new show, which promises thrills and chills aplenty.

Starring six-time Emmy nominee Sarah Paulson as the seminal One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest villain during her early years, Netflix is reviving the classic character of Nurse Mildred Ratched for a 2020 version, which is set in 1947, 20 years prior to the events of the book and classic film starring Jack Nicholson when she was in the initial throws of her sadistic behaviour in the mental-care system.

From the creator of American Horror Story - Ryan Murphy is also the man behind the likes of Glee, Scream Queens and Hollywood - the eight-episode first season will premiere on Friday, 18th September and has already been renewed for a second season.

That means it must be good!

Exploring the reasons why Nurse Ratched is so heartless and cold, the nail-biting series sees her arrive at a leading California psychiatric hospital where new and unsettling experiments have begun on the human mind. It follows her evolution from nurse to full-fledged monster, as well as her journey through the mental health care system, after Mildred positions herself as the perfect dedicated nurse to work at the facility. Of course she's got her own agenda though - infiltrating the entire mental health care system and those within it.

"We had a saying in the Corps. Save one life and you're a hero. Save a hundred lives? Well then, you're a nurse," says Sarah Paulson in the newly released trailer for the series, where she's seen inflicting a significant amount of pain on patients.

"You deserve someone to show you mercy. How different I would be if someone had," she later adds.

"It's a big fall show," Ryan Murphy previously told Deadline. "It's a feminist psychological horror show. We've been done with that for a while. It's the performance of Sarah Paulson's life."

Also starring fellow American Horror Story actor Jon Jon Briones, who plays Dr Richard Hanover, Sex and the City's Cynthia Nixon as Gwendolyn Briggs, Judy Davis as Nurse Betsy Bucket, Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood, Finn Wittrock as Edmund Tolleson, Charlie Carver as Huck, Alice Englert as Dolly, Amanda Plummer as Louise and Corey Stoll as Charles Wainwright, Ratched has a stellar line-up in what's sure to be a stellar show.

We can't wait!
