Alexander Skarsgård, who plays Perry Wright, was murdered at the end of season one, but TV Line confirms he'll be making a return - probably in the form of flashbacks, unless he's reincarnating from the dead.

The biggest addition to the cast is Oscar-winner Meryl Streep, who will be appearing as Mary Louise Wright, the mother of deceased Perry, who comes to Monterrey out of concern for her grandchildren.

Nicole gave fans a first-look at Meryl in her new role by sharing a set photo on Instagram.

And how could we forget the iconic on-set images of Reese hurling an ice cream right at Meryl that went viral last year?!

The Alienist's Douglas Smith is also joining the cast as surfer and aspiring marine biologist Corey Brockfield, who is also Jane's co-worker.

What will it be about?

Here's the official synopsis for Big Little Lies season two:

"The Golden Globe and Emmy-winning series is a subversive, darkly comedic drama, which will continue to explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting.

"Woodley's character Jane Chapman will be processing Perry's sudden death in the storyline, while trying to build a new life for herself and her son, Ziggy.

"Dern, who received both an Emmy and Golden Globe for her performance, will be reprising her role as Renata Klein, a woman who will be faced with new challenges in her marriage.

"Bonnie Carlson, Zoë Kravitz's character, will confront her past while struggling to come to terms with Perry's death."

And HBO added: "The subversive, darkly comedic drama Big Little Lies will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode... the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom."

"This is inspired by the overwhelming response by audiences around the world, conceived once again by Liane Moriarty, realized by David Kelley and now in the hands of visionary filmmaker Andrea Arnold," added Kidman. "What a journey this has been. I'm so grateful to have this opportunity to keep exploring these female characters and make this series with my friends."
