Since appearing on Netflix in January, End Of The F*cking World has been dubbed one of the best series of the year. And it has today been confirmed that, the eight-part series, which originally aired on Channel 4, is returning to Netflix for a second series.

Following the cliff-hanger ending that saw James (Alex Lawther) and Aylssa (Jessica Barden) sprinting down the beach away from an armed SWAT team before James knocks Alyssa out with a riffle, fans have been left with so many questions.

Did James get shot by the police? Is he still alive? Did Alyssa tell the police that James coerced her into committing all those crimes?

Everything suggests that James got killed - which is exactly what happened in the comic series that End Of The F*cking World is based on, but given that second series has been commissioned, it could see James survive and face criminal prosecution for all his and Alyssa's crimes.

While we don't yet have a date for the new series, we can relax in the knowledge that a second season has officially been confirmed.

Announcing the news we've all been waiting for, the official programme's Twitter account wrote: "We'll be f*cking back."

Head of Drama at Channel 4, Beth Willis, told Deadline: "The End of The F*cking World is a truly special show that constantly intrigues. It has an almost alchemical blend of pitch-black humor and beautifully warm tenderness which marks it out as a truly unique show.

"We're so proud that this global success story began at Channel 4 and that a second series is on its way. Charlie's witty, wonderful world is back, and we can't wait to see where she takes it next."

Written by Charlie Covell, the dark humoured teen drama is based on a graphic novel by Charles S. Foreman, following the lives of James and Aylssa as they head on a rebellious road trip that takes a dark turn.

Upon the announcement of a second series, Charlie said: "I'm completely thrilled that we're going again and I'm delighted to be back working with such a great team."

Before the news was revealed, Alex Lawther admitted he was dubious about where the story would go if a second series was commissioned.

He told NME: "Where would it go though? Me and Charlie Covell chat all the time so I'm sure she'd come up with something brilliant. But ultimately, it's up to whoever is the decider. I'm not really sure who that person is... If anyone has their phone number, they should call them and tell them it's a good idea!"
