It's the news we have anticipated for years! Amy Adams is officially making her grand return in the role of Princess Giselle for the sequel to the beloved Disney musical film, Enchanted.

The rather ominously titled Disenchanted will premiere on the Disney+ streaming platform.

Sean Bailey, the Disney Studios president of production, revealed the news during Disney's Investor Day conference.

Unfortunately, no further details about the plot were released so, you'll have to stay tuned to find out more about Princess Giselle's adventures.

The film will be directed by Adam Shankman - who is also set to direct the highly anticipated sequel to Hocus Pocus. Fans should also be pleased to hear that Shankman directed the glorious 2007 film adaptation of the musical Hairspray.

The Enchanted sequel has been in development for a long, long time but it seems like this announcement is the "happily ever after" fans have been waiting for. The sequel was confirmed to be in development in 2011, then in 2016 and again in March this year.

Enchanted was a huge hit upon release in 2007, grossing $340.5 million at the box office. The film blends live action and traditionally animated scenes, focusing on an archetypical Disney Princess who is forced out of her whimsical, animated Disney fairy tale land into the live-action hustle and bustle of New York City.

The film is essentially Disney's homage to itself, making numerous references to Disney's classic animated tales such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs and Sleeping Beauty.

The star-studded cast also includes Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Susan Sarandon, Frozen's Idina Menzel and Julie Andrews as the narrator. We do not know whether any of them will return for the sequel (yet) but we have our fingers crossed.

Enchanted received two nominations at the 65th Golden Globe Awards and three Best Original Song nominations at the 80th Academy Awards for 'Happy Working Song', 'So Close' and 'That's How You Know'.

Disenchanted will premiere on Disney+. A release date is yet to be announced.
