Dolly Parton's highly-anticipated series Heartstrings has just dropped on Netflix.

The scripted anthology sees eight different episodes, all bearing the title of one of the icon's famous songs.

Each one varies in tone, using the inspiration, stories and memories behind them to create a narrative scored to Dolly's tunes - and the reception to it has been great from Twitter users.

One said: "I have no regrets spending my Friday night binge watching Heartstrings."

Another added: "I am SO tired right now, but it was worth it to stay up all night to see @colinodonoghue1 as #JJSneed in #Heartstrings and flail about it with my fellow Colin fans. You did such a great job, Colin!!! We love it!!!"

A third said: "Heartstrings by @DollyParton and @netflix may be the best thing that's ever happened to me"

But while the general public were digging it, critics have been less kind. The Hollywood Reporter reviewed it as "sensitive but sloggy".

Whilst The Guardian said it's a "schmaltzfest"and the "country legend sells us a bum steer". Ouch.

To be honest, we reckon if you're a huge Dolly fan you'll like it whatever. If you are likely to tune in, here's what to expect.

The official synopsis on Netflix reads: "Eight stories celebrating family, faith, love and forgiveness come to life in this series inspired by Dolly Parton's iconic country music catalog".

And whilst the country singer, 73, is the executive producer, she does take a starring role too - so you won't be disappointed on that front.

She features alongside the likes of Julianne Hough who is an America's Got Talent judge and also starred in Footloose, Colin O'Donoghue (Once Upon A Time), Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon A Time), Kathleen Turner (Friends, Romancing The Stone) and Kimberly Williams-Paisley (Father of the Bride).

And it is Julianne who takes the lead role in the first episode, playing the role of Jolene.

The synopsis of episode one reads: "Jolene's back -- and bolder than ever. Revisit the story of the auburn-haired icon with this modern take on her seductive reputation."

Episodes include 'Jolene', 'Two Doors Down', 'If I Had Wings', 'J.J. Sneed', 'These Old Bones', 'Down From Dover', 'Sugar Hill' and 'Cracker Jack' (

Whilst the other seven episodes are titled with other famous hits including: 'Two Doors Down', 'If I Had Wings', 'J.J. Sneed', 'These Old Bones', 'Down From Dover', 'Sugar Hill' and 'Cracker Jack'.

And you can really tell this is a passion project, with Dolly saying in the voiceover of the trailer: "Songs that I've written, they're stories of my life - every triumph, every struggle, every smile, every sorrow.

"It's the melody of my memories. It's the sound of my heartstrings."

Can't wait to have a sing-a-long later.
