There has been some exciting names thrown into the mix...

It's been thirty years and now Disney's The Little Mermaid is finally set to get a live-action remake and we are seriously excited.

It follows other classics from Dumbo to The Lion King that have recently been re-made with new graphics and a whole load of CGI, more suited to today's audience.

But who is set to be cast in this remake you ask?

Disney & PA

We've done a little digging and there are just two castings so far confirmed, including Halle Bailey, who is playing the lead role of Ariel the mermaid.

If you've not heard of Halle, she's part of an R&B duo, Chloe x Halle, with her sister Chloe Bailey. She's also Sky from Grown-ish.

Director of the new The Little Mermaid, Rob Marshall said: "After an extensive search, it was abundantly clear that Halle possesses that rare combination of spirit, heart, youth, innocence, and substance - plus a glorious singing voice - all intrinsic qualities necessary to play this iconic role."

Scuttle the seagull has finally been confirmed to be played by Awkwafina Lum who you would have seen in Crazy Rich Asians and Ocean's Eight.

We can't wait to see her as Scuttle, a part originally voiced by a male - Buddy Hackett.

She opened up to Marie Claire about her confirmed casting this year.

Disney & PA

Everybody's favourite happy fish, Flounder, is heavily rumoured to be Jacob Tremblay, the youngster who played the boy in the dark film, Room, alongside Brie Larson.

There are tonnes of other rumours swirling about the rest of the cast, even Harry Styles' name got thrown into the mix for Eric at one point.

Sadly, that casting is not happening.

During an interview with The Face, Harry revealed he did discuss joining the project but instead decided to focus on music.

He said: "I want to put music out and focus on that for a while."

"But everyone involved in it was amazing, so I think it's going to be great. I'll enjoy watching it, I'm sure."

Disney & PA

His is not the only name that has been tossed into the ring though, as Christian Navarro has also been rumoured.

You might recognise the actor from 13 Reasons Why, as he plays a key character, Tony.

But Chilling Adventures of Sabrina's Gavin Leatherwood, is also a contender, after he hinted he may have auditioned for the role of Eric, as reported by JustJaredJr.

Disney & PA

A fan tweeted him saying: "Audition for prince eric [sic]," and he responded with "Maybe I already have".

Interesting.

But the real question is, who will play the fabulously demonic Ursula, the sea witch?

She's undoubtedly the most exciting character in the film, with some great songs too.

Disney & PA

We've heard two key rumours. One is that the fabulous Melissa McCarthy could take on the role which we would absolutely love, despite mixed reactions from others.

Disney & PA

However, we'd be equally as excited by the other rumour, which is Lizzo. She actually offered herself up for the role and posted a clip of her singing Poor Unfortunate Souls.

With those two fighting it out for the witch of the sea, there's still room for a king of the ocean - Triton - aka Ariel's dad.

The Hollywood Reporter has suggested Javier Bardem is in talks to play the underwater king who is tough on his red-headed daughter who is desperate to get on land.

Disney & PA

We have no doubt the Oscar-winning actor will nail the role.

Filming will likely start in 2020, so we're unsure when the exact release date will be just yet.

But whoever is cast in these roles, we're excited to see the under the water film revamped with no doubt amazing CGI.
