Ever since Season 1 of Netflix's dark comedy Dead To Me left us on the mother of all cliff hangers, we've been chomping at the bit for clues about Season 2.

Luckily, the series returns to the streaming service on Friday 8th May - and in the meantime, the trailer gives us some juicy details to chew over.

Where did Season 1 leave us?

Season 1 followed the unlikely friendship between widows Jen (Christina Applegate) and Judy (Linda Cardellini), after the pair meet at a grief counselling session.

Jen is mourning her husband, who was killed by a hit-and-run driver, while Judy grieves for her fiancé, who died of a heart attack.

But the series ended on a bombshell, showing the duo standing over the body of Judy's ex-fiancé Steve (James Marsden) - with Jen seemingly being the one who shot him.

Fans were naturally left with all the questions.

Is Steve really dead? Was there a motive, or is this a mishap? And, importantly, how could you bond with the person who killed your husband?

Going by the trailer for Season 2, fans can prepare to take a deep dive into what looks to be a darkly hilarious murder cover-up.

Here's what we think we know so far...

Is Steve dead?

Given that the trailer opens on a shot of Steve's dead body floating in the swimming pool, we think we can safely say yes.

Judy and Jen's frantic voices narrate the scene.

"What did you do?" cries Judy. "Call the police!"

"How's it gonna look if I go to the cops? Steve killed my husband," answers Jen. "My boys can't lose me, no one can ever know what happened."

"How are we supposed to figure out what to do with a dead body?" Judy asks.

Yikes!

Did Jen kill Steve, and why?

It certainly seems so, but the details are far from clear.

There seems to be a murderous backstory involving Jen's husband, which could have provided a motive.

Of course, there's also the possibility that the killing was an accident.

How are Judy and Jen getting on?

The twosome are shown frantically trying to work out how to cover up a murder scene - mopping up blood, covering up the pool, and facing disagreements on how to handle the situation.

"All I can think about are movies that involve wood chippers or dissolving a body in the bathtub," despairs Judy. "He was the man I was gonna marry, he deserves some dignity."

To which Jen replies, "I'm sorry Judy, not everything is a Disney movie about castle-f*ckin'-sparkle time."

Classic Jen. Seriously, we can't wait for more snappy dialogue between these two.

Does anyone else know about the cover up?

Quite possibly. Jen and Judy are certainly paranoid.

"The FBI are connecting dots, and we are the f*cking dots," whispers Jen, at one point.

While another clip shows Detective Ana Perez (Diana Maria Riva) tell Jen: "I'm warning you, watch yourself, because I sure as hell am."

And in another scene, the words 'I know what you did' are shown graffitied on a garage door.

Oooh.

Happily, all key cast members are returning for the second season (

Who's returning?

Well, we know that Christina and Linda will be back as Jen and Judy, obviously.

Jen's sons - Sam McCarthy as Charlie, and Luke Roessler as Henry - will return too, as well as Diana Maria Riva as Detective Ana Perez.

We're hoping co-stars like Valerie Mahaffey and Max Jenkins will be back in the fold, too.

OK, recap, what's the top line?

Well, the Netflix's official synopsis reads: "Picking up in the aftermath of that bloody backyard reveal, the irrepressible pair once again struggles to keep their secrets buried.

"With a surprising new visitor in town and Detective Perez hot on their heels, Jen and Judy take drastic measures to protect their loved ones and each other - no matter the cost."

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, show creator Liz Feldman said of the series: "This show will always be a show that explores the dark sides and the light sides of grief, loss, forgiveness, and friendship. So suffice it to say, there will be more darkness."

"There's an evening of the score and there's a rebalancing that will take place and almost, in some ways, a role reversal."

We love this show so much, we'd consider hiding a body for it. Roll on 8th May.
