Dawn French To Star As Beatrix Potter In Sky Christmas Special

Sky One has announced the premiere date for its heart-warming, comedy-drama special Roald & Beatrix: The Tail of the Curious Mouse starring Dawn French.
Dawn French is taking on the role of Beatrix Potter, the iconic English writer, illustrator and natural scientist whose works include The Tale of Peter Rabbit.

The 90-minute special's all-star cast also includes Jessica Hynes (Roald's mother Sofie), Rob Brydon (Beatrix's husband William), Nina Sosanya (Anne Landy), Nick Mohammed (Mr Entwistle), Alison Steadman and Bill Bailey.
Arriving just in time for Christmas, the tale will tell the story of a how a lonely young boy sets off on a big adventure to meet his favourite author, Beatrix Potter.
Their eventual meeting would play a big role in his life, as the boy would grow up to become one of the most well-known authors of all time - Roald Dahl.
Young Roald Dahl will be played by Harry Tayler.

Born Helen Beatrix Potter on 28 July 1866 in London, Beatrix was encouraged to draw from an early age and she spent many hours sketching animals and plants. Her fascination for nature would continue throughout her life.
One of Beatrix's earliest stories, that of Peter Rabbit, was an instant success when it was first published in October 1902. The following year, Beatrix published The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin and The Tailor of Gloucester with Frederick Warne. Many famous tales followed.
Roald Dahl created some of the most incredible children's stories and characters that continue to resonate with readers and audiences around the world today. His works include The Witches, Matilda, Fantastic Mr Fox and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Many of Roald's stories have been adapted for the stage and for film, most recently The Witches starring Anne Hathaway and an upcoming musical reboot of Matilda, which will enter production next year.
Roald and Beatrix: The Tail of the Curious Mouse will air on Sky One on Christmas Eve at 8.15pm.
