A new true crime will delve into the murder of Danny Denbury, who was found stabbed and battered to death in his flat.

The Real Prime Suspect, which airs tonight on CBS Reality (Sky channel 146), is led by retired detective Jackie Malton who uses her unparalleled list of contacts to get access to Britain's most infamous murder cases.

Jackie, the inspiration behind multi-award winning drama Prime Suspect character DCI Jane Tennison, played by Helen Mirren, rings in help from former colleagues to revisit investigations with police, detectives, and other professionals who were there at the time of the cases.

And it's episode 3 of season 2 that looks at the mysterious murder of 62-year-old Danny Denbury, who was found tied to a radiator, stabbed and beaten to death in his flat in Newport in 1988.

On 19th January, neighbours noticed Danny - described as a quiet and friendly gentleman who was well-known in the community - hadn't taken his milk in from his doorstep.

Growing concerned, they called his brother Neil, who arrived at his flat to find his brother dead and tied to the radiator in a pool of blood. It was thought Danny's killer had left him alive, but he eventually choked on his own blood where his face had been smashed in.

Police followed a number of leads and spoke to witnesses who stated they'd seen Danny drinking in a pub with another man the week before.

Weeks later, police were given information about a 28-year-old man named Christopher Paul McGovern, who was arrested on suspicion of murder.

At first, McGovern, an ex soldier, told persistent lies about being involved in the murder, saying he was in Danny's apartment but another man was also there.

Eventually, McGovern admitted to killing Danny, saying he wanted to watch the older man die after making gay sexual advances towards him. The sick killer admitted to stabbing Danny repeatedly with a potato peeler and beating him to death.

"In this episode, Malton takes to the streets of Newport to cast her forensic eye over the 1988 murder of Danny Denbury," says the channel.
