A brand new series of Netflix's Criminal is coming, and it sounds as nail-biting as ever.

Following the smash-hit success of the first instalment, Criminal is back 16th September with four new cases and four new suspects.

Described as a "stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama" which "focuses on the intense mental conflict between detectives and suspects," like the first, the entire second series takes place within the confines of a police interview suite... you know, to really ramp up that claustrophobia.

Teasing the upcoming show, Netflix promised "bold stories, some surprises, and a completely innovative take on the police procedural".

And first look images reveal we'll get to see Katherine Kelly (Liar) return to her role as Detective Inspector Natalie Hobbs, Lee Ingleby (Broadchurch) reprise his gig as probing officer, Tony Myserscough and Rochenda Sandall (Line Of Duty) make a comeback as interviewer Vanessa Warren, attempting to crack a set of potential criminals in the interrogation room once again.

If it's anywhere as gripping as last time, consider us hooked.

Criminal season one got everyone talking after undertaking the ambitious mission of creating four international versions of the series, set in the UK, Spain, German and France.

Each episode featured a standalone case, and saw place attempting to get to the bottom of a mystery in the interrogation room, and draw a confession out of the suspect.

Meanwhile we also caught a glimpse into the private lives of the detectives, and their personal struggles, too.

The series had some rather big names as guest stars, too, including Doctor Who and Broadchurch actor David Tennant, The Duchess star Hayley Atwell and Marcella's Youssef Kerkour.

And season 2 promises to offer some similarly high profile actors and actresses - although Netflix is keeping the signings close to its chest for now.

Criminal Season 2 will be available to stream on Netflix from September 16th.
