People Are Emailing Connell From 'Normal People' - And Actually Getting Replies

This is gold.

If you've managed to emotionally claw your way through the entire series of Normal People (or, if like some fans, you've actually watched it twice) you might have noticed Connell Waldron's email address flashes up on screen during episode six.

Connell (played by Paul Mescal) receives an email from Trinity, explaining that his short story hadn't made the cut for the college mag (fools). And eagle-eyed viewers will see that in the recipient box, the address reads: [email protected].

Surely, it's a fake email, right?! Apparently not. Because some Normal People mega fans have actually emailed the address and guess what? Dreamy Connell has replied.

Well, not actually our Connell - although whoever he is, he probably is called Connell, based on the email address.

Clearly a good sport, the mystery respondent doesn't disappoint. He talks about all the important topics - Marianne obvs, New York, his chain (and where it originates from no less).

And whoever is on the end of the email address has clearly watched the show or read the book, because they're pretty clued up on the plot - even replying as if they're currently in New York.

The fans have taken to Twitter to share grabs of the message exchanges. The first, of which the subject was: 'Your relationship with Marianne' read: "Dear Connell, Hey man, I really hope that you can find a way to forthrightly communicate your feelings to Marianne.

"Can't keep all that bottled up inside, bro. Find a way to love her as fully as possible, be authentic, and don't let your head get messed up by what other people might think. Didn't you learn that lesson with the Debs debacle?"

And we are *living* for Connell's reply.

"Hi Travis, thanks for your email mate," it reads.

"You're right, I've been a right idiot with Marianne. I feel like I keep making the same mistake over and over, but I don't trust myself not to hurt her again and I don't feel in control of my emotions.

"I don't know what will happen with us now. I never thought I'd be the one to move to New York and she'd still be back home in Sligo. But I think about her all the time and I don't know if I can ever feel at home here.

"I try to focus on my writing, but I always end up thinking about Marianne. We talk sometimes but I've never felt further from her. Thank you for your email, it meant a lot."

Our. Hearts.

The second email exchange is equally hilarious, with another fan deciding to email Connell - this time about a very important topic - his chain.

Explaining how much she loved the chain, the fan asked Connell where it was from. "A shop in Sligo?" She asked. "Thanks for any intel."

She also added: "Wishing you the best with your writing & with Marianne. Remember: we really do owe each other everything."

And of course, Connell replied.

"Thank you for your email and I'm glad you like it. My mum gave it to me when I was 10 actually. I assume she bought it in Sligo, it's not an heirloom or anything, but I don't know where she bought it. I'm sorry," he wrote.

"I think I do owe Marianne everything, and I know I wouldn't be in New York City today without her, but without her I don't know where else to go."

Seriously, whoever this Connell Waldron is, can he get a round of applause? These emails have certainly brightened our lockdown!
