If Sky can takeaway anything from their recent drama launches, it's that people LOVE Cobra.

Viewers have spent a lot of time bingeing the political drama since it's launch last month - so much so it's become one of their most successful series in recent years. So no wonder it's been renewed for season two.

The high-stakes drama starring Robert Carlyle and Victoria Hamilton follows Prime Minister Robert Sutherland (Carlyle) and his Chief of Staff Anna Marshall (Hamilton) as they try to bring the country back from an unfolding national emergency after it's thrown into literal darkness.

A team of Britain's leading experts, crisis contingency planners and senior politicians assemble under the name COBRA to bring society back from the brink.

Joining the Prime Minister and his Chief of Staff is one of the country's best crisis contingency planners Fraser Walker (Richard Dormer), and Home Secretary, Archie Glover-Morgan (David Haig) who has his sights on power.

The second series will be set in the aftermath of the solar and political storms. Prime Minister Robert Sutherland is attempting to steer the country back to normality with the help of his loyal Chief-of-Staff Anna Marshall and dedicated advisors.

But the problems don't end there. Sky add: "An assassination on British soil unleashes a chain of events that threatens to develop into a crisis even more serious than the one from which the country has recently emerged.

"An apparently invisible global enemy, not playing by the rules and operating outside national boundaries, appears to be bent on our destruction and nobody really knows who is friend and who is foe."

Juicy.

With a 2.2 million launch audience as well as being one of the channel's quickest-binged box-sets, so no wonder they've decided to renew Cobra for a second series.

Robert Carlyle said: "I'm absolutely delighted by the audience reaction and success of Cobra. I look forward to season 2 and welcome the chance to play the PM Robert Sutherland once again."

There's no word as yet on when Cobra season two will be out - but we'll keep you posted.

And if you haven't watched it yet, now's you cue to binge.

Cobra is available to watch on Sky One and NOW TV.
