Chace Crawford thinks a Gossip Girl reboot could happen - although with an entirely new cast and characters rather than the originals reprising their iconic roles.

Ever since the beloved teen drama disappeared from screens in 2012, fans have been desperate to know whether Blair Walforf (Leighton Meester), Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively), Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley ), Nate Archibold (Chace) and co. will ever reunite.

But now chatter of a reboot has kicked off again thanks to fresh comments from Chace.

"I don't know what it would look like with us being in our 30s now, but I always say, because it was such a big part of my life, I'm open to anything," the actor told Digital Spy.

"It would have to be really right, and really specific," Crawford continued, adding that he could see it on a TV streaming service as an eight-episode series.

As for who would star, Chace would be up for a cameo, although the logistics of getting the original cast on-board might prove pretty tricky, as he points out.

Penn is currently filming for season two of surprise smash Netflix hit You while Leighton has just launched her first fashion range. And Blake is expecting her third child with husband Ryan Reynolds.

"It would be very tough to get everybody on board I think because of their schedules, Penn, Leighton, Ed... They're all doing really good TV shows. It would be hard I think [to get them all together]," said the actor, before suggesting a remedy. "The reboot might come in the form of new characters. I would absolutely cameo. I'd have to!"

Blake, Penn and Leighton have all previously said they would 'never say never' to a Gossip Girl reboot.

"If everyone was into it and if the timing was right, you know? I don't want to say, 'No, never'," Leighton told Vanity Fair in 2017.

Meanwhile, Blake echoed her co-star's view, telling the publication in the same year that she wouldn't want to be away from her children that much as filming was "hard work".

"But I've just learned in life you never say never. I'm looking to do something that I haven't done yet, not something that I did. But would I do that? Who knows-if it was good, if it made sense," she said.

You hear that? Never say never!
