A Wrinkle In Time star Halle Bailey will star as Ariel, while Ursula will be played by comedic actress Melissa McCarthy.

Disney has since tweeted the full cast list, which includes: Hamilton star Daveed Diggs play Caribbean crab Sebastian, Spanish actor Javier Bardem as King Triton, The Smurf's star Jacob Tremblay as Flounder, Little Women's Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.

The film will feature both music for the original animated classic and new tracks by American composer Alan Menken and Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Speaking about her role as Ursula, Oscar-nominated Melissa said: "I have such an affection for Ursula. I know she's the villain, but I've just always kind of been like, 'Oh my god.'

"I mean, she's kind of delicious to play."

She continued to People: "I'm just kind of doing it as if I could be like the vaudevillian night club act that lives in my heart.

"It's just so fun, you can't go too far with her and I'm excited to see it."
