Call the Midwife fans - huge news. Filming has just started for the Series 11 Christmas special!

The news was announced this morning, with the show even providing a behind the scene's snippet of the festive episode starting production. You can watch it below:

In the clip, the team can be seen back on set, with Laura Main, who plays Shelagh Turner, explaining: "We're back! We're back filming Series 11!

"Series 10 has just aired, so it's an unusual situation, we're not normally airing and filming at the same time but, what a boost, getting that reaction and all the comments, it's wonderful to read."

If this year's Christmas special is anything like last year's, it will be hugely popular. In fact, 2020's special was the BBC's most watched non-royal broadcast on Christmas Day, with more than eight million viewers tuning in.

It's certainly an exciting time for Call the Midwife fans, with a new series kicking off last week, too. The popular show, which first aired in 2012, returned for its 10th series earlier in the month. And now we have Series 11 to look forward to, too!

The show follows a group of midwives in the 1950s and 1960s, working in the East End of London and is based on the memoirs of Jennifer Worth.

Earlier in the month, BBC confirmed there would also be a 12th and a 13th series of the show, meaning more episodes until at least 2024!

Heidi Thomas, Creator, Writer and Executive Producer, said: "It's an incredible privilege to be able to look back on a decade of Call The Midwife, and yet know that our journey is still very far from over.

"We are thrilled to be going on for a few more years! Like Nonnatus House itself, we have a proud past but an even more exciting future - full of old favourites, fresh faces, higher hemlines, new ideas.

"The stories we tell are like babies - they never stop coming, we love them all, and we vow to do our best by every single one."

Call the Midwife continues on Sundays at 8pm on BBC One.
