Christmas time is hurtling towards us now we're in December (where has this year gone?), and we're now gearing ourselves up for some brilliant festive telly.

One of the sure-fire crowd pleasers every Yuletide season is Call the Midwife, which is set to be chock-full of emotional moments (as well as a few Christmas babies being born).

And now, we've had our very first glimpse at the show's Christmas special - and it looks as if there could be trouble in store for Trixie.

With a teaser trailer unveiled on This Morning, the show sees Nurse Trixie Franklin left "incensed" when someone gifts her a subscription to a 'Marriage Bureau' so she can find herself a husband - after it is feared she could be "left on the shelf".

Trixie is most disappointed at the gift - particularly as she was expecting to receive a dress allowance.

Trixie (played by Helen George) is a popular member of the Call the Midwife family, having starred in the series since its inception in 2012.

But while she's left annoyed at having received the gift, actor Helen George revealed it was a fun storyline to film for the Christmas special.

"I think she's generally quite p***ed off to begin with!" she told press. "She's coping perfectly fine and focusing on her career, so it's a bit of a shock.

"And also, it's like ripping the plaster off and going: 'Oh God, is this what everybody's thinking? Am I left on the shelf? Is this awful? Everybody else has found a lover,' or whatever.

"So I think it's a bit of a shock but it's ultimately quite a fun storyline for Christmas. And I do get to speed-date - the Call The Midwife equivalent of speed-dates with quite a few men, chaps."

The Christmas special also sees the circus come to town (

Meanwhile, the Circus is coming to Poplar, "bringing new friendships, new experiences, and an exciting adventure for Nurse Crane" - as well as a Peter Davison having a guest appearance as the ringmaster.

But there's more than Call The Midwife to look forward to this Christmas - with This Morning also showing a trailer for Dawn French's return as The Vicar of Dibley.

And judging by the trailer, it looks set to be cheekier than ever...
