There's a lot to love about Netflix's new drama Bridgerton, which dropped on Christmas Day. From the scandalous sex scenes to the drama and the period setting, fans can't get enough.

All signs point to a second season being on the horizon and while we wait for Netflix to make things official, here's everything we know about Bridgerton season 2!

So, what is Bridgerton about?

Based on Julia Quinn's bestselling novels, the scandalous series is produced by Scandal and Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes. It follows Daphne Bridgerton (played by Phoebe Dynevor) as she navigates the 'marriage market' of 1813.

Daphne is the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family and she faces pressure to follow in her parent's footsteps by finding a true love match.

As her older brother rules out each and every one of her potential suitors, the mysterious narrator, Lady Whistledown (Julie Andrews) begins to cast aspersions on Daphne set against the backdrop of London's high society

After meeting Simon, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) who is a committed bachelor, the pair strike a mutually beneficial deal to pretend to be engaged. However things take a steamy turn when sparks fly between the pair.

Who will return for season 2?

Several cast members have already said they would love to return for a second season and are anticipating the show's return. Phoebe Dynevor, who plays Daphne, revealed to Elle she would love to come back return for season 2 as long as she Daphne gets to have a little fun with Anthony (Jonathan Bailey). "I want to see Daphne get involved in Anthony's love life a bit, as he sort of meddled with hers quite a lot," she said. "I think that will be fun."

Regé-Jean Page as Simon Basset in Bridgerton (
Netflix)

Regé-Jean Page, who plays Daphne's beau Simon Basset, would like to see more of their relationship in the next season. "As far as continuing to explore characters, I think that love is an evolving thing," he told TV Guide. "It's a living, breathing thing that needs tending, that needs looking after, that needs mending when it gets worn or torn.

"They get married very young. They still have a lot of growing to do. They have a lot to do, and I think it'll always be fun to watch them do that together."

Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, told Radio Times she would also like come back for more Bridgerton episodes. She said: "I'd love to go on that journey with [Penelope], to see how she's changed.

"I'd really love to come back, because I feel like we've just scratched the surface. And because there's such a huge cast in this show, there's so much more of all the characters."

What might season 2 of Bridgerton be about?

The Bridgerton book series contains eight different books which means the series creator, Chris Van Dusen, and Shonda Rhimes have no shortage of material for the next instalment. The second book in the series is titled The Viscount Who Loved Me and it focuses on Anthony's intent to marry a Sheffield daughter. Anthony is convinced he should marry for duty, not love and this leads to lots of drama.

This sounds great but, s season 2 officially confirmed?

Not yet. But, the series has been a huge success since it dropped on Christmas Day. It is currently trending at number one on Netflix UK. There's also a recent listing from Production Weekly which shows that the show is set to start filming in Uxbridge, west London, in March 2021. We will have to wait and see whether the cast will actually be able to film starting in March due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. This is subject to change.

So, come on Netflix, let's make it official!
