We'd just about got over the fact that another season of Big Little Lies wasn't looking likely, but now Nicole Kidman has thrown us a massive curveball.

Speaking at the GQ Awards on Tuesday night, the actress revealed that she and Reese Witherspoon have been "exploring" the possibility of a third season of the hit show, after all.

"Reese and I just spoke literally two days ago and we were going 'yeah...'" she told Lorraine on the red carpet.

"I mean we were both saying it's one of the best experiences we've ever had. It's definitely not right now, but we're definitely exploring it."

The show - which is based on the novel by Liane Moriarty and also stars Zoe Kravitz, Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern - was originally supposed to air as a one-time miniseries.

However, HBO took no time at all to renew it for a second series, with the addition of Meryl Streep to the cast.

It has since been internationally recognised, landing multiple Golden Globes and Emmy awards.

The second season aired in the UK on Sky Atlantic back in June, with fans tuning in to see the aftermath of Perry Wright's death.

And fans were not disappointed as - spoiler alert - the dramatic season came to an end with Celeste savagely taking down her mother-in-law Mary-Louise, who was overdue her comeuppance following her treatment of her daughter-in-law throughout the series.

In court as she battled to keep her children, Celeste played a video which proved that Perry had been abusive towards her, shocking Mary-Louise, who had been passionately protesting his innocence.

Finally, in a shocking scene, we see the women handing themselves in to the police.

Now, with all that wrapped up, we can only begin to speculate what a third series would hold.

The news will come as a welcome surprise to many after HBO boss Casey Bloys previously cast doubt over the series returning, claiming a third instalment was "not realistic".

"Look, if they all came to me and said, 'We worked out all of our schedules!' - then sure," he told TVLine. "But I just don't think it's realistic."

Well, if Reese and Nicole are chatting we're half way there. Who is going to call Meryl?!
