Believe Me The Abduction Of Lisa McVey: Bobby Joe Long Smirks In Chilling Interview After Capture

Warning: This article contains content that some readers may find distressing and/or triggering.

Ever since Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey aired on Netflix last week, viewers have been left disturbed by the haunting events that took place in Tampa, Florida, in 1984.

Bobby Joe Long was a serial killer who had taken the lives of at least 10 women when he abducted and repeatedly raped 17-year-old Lisa McVey. Lisa managed to escape, and thanks to her incredible survival tactics, helped police track down Long before he could take another life.

In a chilling interview filmed after he was caught, Long can be seen smirking, and casually claiming "he didn't know why" he had committed the heinous crimes.

"A lot of lives just gone right down the tubes because of me," he begins.

"You know in one way or another. And it's not a good feeling, it's not a pleasant feeling, I'm not proud of anything I've done.

Thanks to Lisa, Long was arrested on 16th November outside a cinema and received 28 life sentences and one death sentence.

He was executed in 2019 after three decades on Death Row. It is reported that he did not show remorse, or apologise to victims' families.

Lisa was present at the execution, and delivered a statement in which she thanked the killer.

Breaking down, she said: "Bobby Joe Long, thank you. Thank you for choosing me instead of another 17-year-old little girl. The reason why I say 'thank you' now is because I have forgiven you for what you have done to me.

"Had I not forgiven you, I might as well have been in my own prison, without walls.

"God has shown me the only way to really be free when someone bestows injustice against you is complete forgiveness.

"My life changed forever and for the better. I chose not to remain a victim, I chose to live... I end my statement with one last thing Bobby Joe Long and hear me loud and clear, hear my roaring voice, may God have mercy on your soul, long overdue."
