Telly lovers, consider this a heads up, because a big slice of the BBC library currently on Netflix will be leaving the subscription service at the end of March 2020.

The news comes as the BBC begins to gradually move its classic archive programmes away from entertainment platforms like Netflix and Amazon to rehome them on BBC iPlayer and BritBox.

That means major archive programmes like the two seasons of The Office and all six seasons of Absolutely Fabulous will no longer be available.

Docuseries making an exit include Louis Theroux: Miami Mega Jail (2011) and all seven seasons of The Great British Bake Off. So long, vintage Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.

Elsewhere in the comedy classics department, Netflix will be waving goodbye to golden oldies like Fawlty Towers, The Royle Family, Porridge, along with Steve Coogan and Rob Bryden's restaurant review series The Trip.

These series will likely be rehoused on BritBox - which, for the uninitiated, is a new subscription service from ITV and the BBC.

BritBox differs from iPlayer in that it offers archive programmes from two channels and requires an additional fee.

Fans will no doubt be disappointed at the sudden removal of so many favourite shows - but don't panic, because plenty of beloved series will still be available.

BBC megahits like Line of Duty, Doctor Foster, Planet Earth, Peaky Blinders, Sherlock, Doctor Who and Blackadder will remain on the service.

Phew! Here's hoping they're here to stay.
