The BBC has recently confirmed that Season 2 of Baptiste is on its way, with filming set to start next month - and we can't wait to see the formidable French detective back in action.

Even more excitingly, Killing Eve star Fiona Shaw is set to join the cast this time round, taking on a lead role in the TV show, playing a woman whose family goes mysteriously missing.

We know the stubborn detective won't be slowing down any time soon so we expect he'll be straight on the case. But what exactly can we expect from the new season?

When will Baptiste Season 2 air?

With the first season airing in February 2019, our educated guess would be we're set to see this on our screens in the same month next year. So not too long to go...

Who will return to Baptiste Season 2?

Naturally, given the show takes its name from its protagonist, the retired police investigator played by Tchéky Karyo, will return to the show.

We also expect to see Boris Van Severen return as Niels, aka Julien's surprise son, given that his storyline was significant to the drama in Season 1 - but there has been no confirmation of this just yet.

And while we're hoping for Julien's wife Celia (Anastasia Hille) to return, Julien supposedly has pushed her away this season, so we're unsure whether she will just yet. She really needs to - she's her husband's voice of reason.

Of course though we will definitely not see Kim Vogel (Talisa Garcia) return, given that she (spoiler alert) died in the first season.

It's unlikely we'll see Tom Hollander make a comeback for Season 2 (

Showrunners Harry and Jack Williams also told Digital Spy that we will likely not see Edward Stratton (Tom Hollander) make a comeback.

Who will join the Baptiste Season 2 cast?

The amazing Fiona Shaw is set to appear as a main character in the new season.

Fans will recognise her as Petunia Dursley in Harry Potter and Carolyn Martens in Killing Eve, but if you're a fan of retro 1990 film 3 Men and a Little Lady, you would remember her as Miss Lomax.

She also starred as a counsellor in Fleabag.

What will the plot of Baptiste Season 2 be?

A brand new gripping case will see Julien up to his old tricks this time in Budapest, helping out British Ambassador Emma Chambers (Fiona Shaw) whose entire family has gone missing.

Julien will once again consume himself with finding Emma's loved ones - her husband and two sons - who disappeared whilst Emma was skiing in the Hungarian mountains.

However, the detective has his suspicions about the Hungarian police force and the corrupt underworld, and concerns about the extreme levels of media interest surrounding Emma's case.

"Julien Baptiste is not the man we knew before," the BBC teases. "After enduring a horrific personal tragedy, Julien has pushed his wife Celia away and is looking for any distraction - whether that be the bottom of a bottle or a new case - to consume him."

The broadcaster has also said the show will "pay homage to its roots in The Missing," by unfolding across two different periods of time.

Will this be the last season of Baptiste?

Show writer Jack Williams has suggested this is likely the last instalment for Baptiste.

He told Deadline: "Julien Baptiste is back for one more case.

"I expect it will be the last time we see him and we will be saying goodbye to the character".

But don't sweat it, don't forget this show is a spin off of The Missing, so maybe there will be a brand new spin off focusing on a new character coming our way?

It's surely not completely out of the question. We guess we'll have to wait and see.
