We'd honestly never have thought, as we flicked through the pages of The Baby-Sitters Club circa age nine, that we'd be gearing up to watch the TV adaptation decades later in the futuristic year of 2020.

And yet, 20 years after the last book was published, the Netflix reboot of the popular teen novels by Ann M. Martin is airing THIS FRIDAY.

The books - published between 1986 and 2000 - follow friends Kristy, Claudia, Dawn, Stacey and Mary Anne, who set up a baby-sitting service for their friends and neighbours.

Through almost 200 books, we followed the group of girl teens as they dealt with issues like boys, parents divorce, illness and moving homes, all while running their business.

The adaptation will follow the girls as they deal with many of the same issues, all with a 2020 twist.

"The themes of The Baby-Sitters Club still resonate 30 years after the original book series was released, and there has never been a more opportune time to tell an aspirational story about empowering young female entrepreneurs," said Melissa Cobb, VP of kids and family content at Netflix.

"Together with Ann M. Martin and the team at Walden Media, our ambition is to contemporise [sic] the storylines and adventures of this iconic group of girlfriends to reflect modern-day issues."

While we're sure to see modern-day additions, such as the use of social media and mobile phones, there's still set to be some nods to the past.

In the trailer, released in May, we even see the girls pick up retro clear phone. All. The. Nostalgia.

Five up-and-coming actresses will play the lead roles. Club president Kristy Thomas, will be played by relative newcomer Sophie Grace, who has starred in Terror In The Woods (2018).

Vice president, Claudia Kishi, will be played by Momona Tamada, an actress best known for playing young Lara Jean in the To All The Boys I've Loved Before trilogy.

Malia Baker will play club secretary Mary Anne Spier, Shay Rudolph will play treasurer Stacey McGill and Xochitl Gomez will take on the role of Dawn Schafer, who moves to Stoneybrook.

Chick-flick royalty Alicia Silverstone will be starring in the remake, but not as one of the babysitters, rather Kristy Thomas's mother, Elizabeth Thomas-Brewer. West Wing star Mark Feuerstein will be playing her love interest, Watson Brewer.

All 10 episodes of The Baby-Sitters Club air on Netflix on Friday 3rd July.
