Anne Hegerty's family have broken their silence after the I'm A Celebrity campmate was seen breaking down in tears a number of times in the jungle.

The Chase star's uncle revealed the family was rooting for Anne during her time on the show, although did air some concerns for her well-being down under.

Anne, who lives with Asperger Syndrome, was overcome by emotion before and after a hellish Bushtucker Trial on Tuesday night, prompting a debate over whether viewers should have voted her into Monstrous Monoliths.

The Governess was locked in cages and had slime, fish guts and thousands of creepy crawlies poured over her head.

"I know she will find it difficult, but we are all rooting for her," Anne's Uncle Richard, 87, told the Daily Mail from his Dorset home.

He continued: "It is very much out of her comfort zone and to be honest I am surprised that she agreed to go on the show.

"We do wish her well, but given what I have heard it could all be a bit too much for her. It will be very hard and I think we have seen that already. I really do hope she will be okay."

Anne's brother, Jon, has taken to Twitter to retweet messages of support from fans to spur her on during I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!.

The Governess inspired many with her bravery on the ITV show, and has been widely praised for speaking openly and honestly about living with Asperger's.

Asperger Syndrome is a form of Autism spectrum disorder (ASD), which can affect a person's social interactions and communication, meaning Anne has found some aspects of jungle life difficult.

Her decision to star on the show prompted a young boy, who also has autism, to pen a now-viral letter in which he praised Anne for going into the jungle.

I'm A Celebrity continues at 9pm tonight on ITV.
