Anne HegertyHegerty has spoken out about when she nearly quit I'm A Celebrity while off-camera, and how her campmates persuaded her to stay.

The Governess became the fifth celeb to booted out of camp on Wednesday night and during her exit interview with Holly Willoughby and Declan Donnelly she hinted about how she almost quit on the first day.

However, Anne prevailed after getting support from ITV producers in the Bush Telegraph and her fellow campmates, managing to make it two-and-a-half weeks in the Australian jungle...

Speaking to Philip Schofield and Rochelle Humes on This Morning today, Anne revealed she was 'in shock' during her first few days in camp.

"I was sort of technically expecting everything that happened but I just hadn't properly imagined it to myself," she explained.

"When we went into Snake Rock, I just got more and more depressed and just thought 'no, no, no, what was I thinking, I can't possibly handle this.'

"Just the physical privation, not the hunger, not even mainly the hunger, just the sheer discomfort and how difficult everything was and how hard it was to keep everything clean.

When Anne was asked if she was surprised at how well she handled the experience, the quiz personality credited her campmates for pulling her through.

"What I was surprised by was how nice all my campmates were. They were just superb. I couldn't possibly have coped without them.

"I would have walked out the first morning without particularly my campmates in Snake Rock who were just so extraordinarily supportive and just kept saying, 'give it a few more hours, have a spoonful of rice and beans you'll feel better' and just encouraging me along and just take it one step at a time."

Phil asked Anne about the moment she hinted she almost quit and she explained: "I did. It was everyone, especially really my campmates who were like, 'just take it easy, let's get through the next few hours, let's just get through the next day, one more night in here see how you feel.'

"And it just gradually began to feel like something I could continue to do.

"Then when I got into main camp I mean everyone was just so lovely. John Barrowman comes running up the path with his arms open, and Nick sidles up to me on the log and gives me a hug and then his pillow, which I've been sleeping on ever since. It's filthy with wood smoke and everything.

"And I woke up in main camp on Wednesday morning for the first time thinking now I can actually imagine staying here till I get voted off. I can imagine not walking out. It was the first time I could imagine that."

I'm A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
