American comedian Amy Schumer released her new Netflix show 'Growing' on 19th March 2019, and it's a whirlwind exploration of her pregnancy so far. Not for the queasy or faint-hearted, Schumer's unfiltered brand of comedy takes audiences through bodily changes to the stupid questions pregnant women get asked.

Schumer hasn't had an easy pregnancy. For most women, sickness in pregnancy is normal and disappears around week 14, but the comedian suffers from hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition that is characterised by prolonged and severe nausea and vomiting, weight loss, low blood pressure and dehydration.

It is thought to be only one in every a hundred women experience the condition, with the Duchess of Cambridge also suffering with the condition during all three of her pregnancies.

Schumer has been open about the condition and posting pictures of her online.

Schumer starts the set by talking about all the silly questions she gets asked as a pregnant woman.

She has decided not to know the sex of her baby but it is a question she gets asked all the time. She likes to reply to "Do you know what you're having?" with "Haemorrhoids!", which are very common during pregnancy as the result of constipation.

We're also granted a peek at her baby bump - an obsession that Schumer discusses. She has a square plaster over her belly button during the show, discussing how women's navels can become misshapen during pregnancy. "My belly button is getting so misshapen with this baby inside that I had to put two band-aids over my belly button today," she says.

Of course, Schumer is excited to welcome her child in the world, but this show talks about the pain and discomfort she has had to endure the last few months. "Women don't tell you how hard it is," she says.

Ali Wong received rave reviews about her Netflix comedy show Hard Knock Wife when it was released last year which featured Wong performing while heavily pregnant.

Having more comedians on screen discussing pregnancy and motherhood is definitely an area of comedy that is growing, and one that has been a long time coming.

Growing is available to stream on Netflix now.
