He's back! Our favourite grief-stricken, sweary lead character Tony is returning to our screens.

Yep, Season 2 of Ricky Gervais' After Life lands on Netflix on Friday 24th April, bringing six new episodes of the hit show to the streaming platform.

Season 1 followed local newspaper writer Tony (Gervais) as he struggled to come to terms with the death of his wife Lisa (Kerry Godliman) who lost her life to cancer.

Once a happy soul and one of life's big jokers, Tony becomes bitter and depressed, even having suicidal feelings.

But rather than end it all, Tony resolves to live on - and in doing so, punish the world around him for the hell it's put him through.

Pushing his well-meaning pals away, Tony's cynicism becomes a way of coping with life.

Gervais said he was "blown away" by the response to Season 1, which had viewers in hysterics and reaching for the tissues in turn.

Season 2 sees Tony trying his hardest to be a better friend to those around him - with mixed success. (

Season 2 will take viewers back to the small fictional town of Tambury, where Tony is trying his hardest to be a better friend to those around him - with mixed success.

"I feel like I should help the people who helped me," says Tony in the official trailer.

Grief is still the major theme of the show.

"People think, all those things I miss doing with Lisa, I could just do them anyway," Tony narrates.

"They're missing the point. I miss doing nothing with Lisa."

We're not crying. You're crying.

Sub-plots include the threat of Tony's local newspaper being shut down (please no!) and a local Am-Dram show coming to town.

Another scene shows Tony trying to find his zen at a yoga class, lead by a bead-wearing, tea-slurping yogi. Naturally, the sequence ends with Tony calling the instructor a c-u-next-Tuesday.
