Now here's a reboot we can finally get on board with.

Ace Ventura remains one of the funniest film franchises of all time, with the timeless comedies catapulting Jim Carrey to household name status and blessing us with moments such as *that* mechanical rhino scene.

And now, an Ace Ventura 3 could be on the way... All righty then!

We'll start by saying that the news of a third film - following Ace Ventura: Pet Detective (1994) and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995) - is no more than industry rumours at this stage, but that not stopping us from getting ridiculously excited.

It all started when industry expert Daniel Richtman, known for his (usually-reliable) movie scoops, tweeted an meme of the Pet Detective with the caption: "Ace Ventura 3?!"

When someone asked if it was wishful thinking or legitimately happening, Daniel confirmed: "Something I hear."

Not loads to go on, right? Agreed. But the plot thickened when Morgan Creek Productions, who produced the first two movies, tweeted this:

Veeeeeery interesting.

Understandably, the initial response if that fans are only interested in a new film if the 57-year-old old reprises his iconic titular role.

"Jim Carrey does it or don't do it at all. Be class if it happens like. Love Ace!," wrote one on Twitter.

"If you have Jim Carrey I approve !!," agreed another.

"A unnecessary sequel from a 90's movie... Ok I'll take it this time because Jim Carrey," penned a third.

The franchise's production company hinted it would be true (

Last year, Carrey's When Nature Calls co-star Tommy Davidson told US Weekly the actor was not interested in a third movie.

"[Jim Carrey] doesn't want to do it now. But Jim is one of those kind of artists that, you know, he does what he feels, he does what he believes in. I asked him about it. I told him, 'Hey man, it'd be nice in Jamaica.' He said, 'No I'm not doing those now'."

However, We Got This Covered reported just last week that an unnamed source - the same who correctly told the publication Bill Murray was returning for Ghostbusters 3 and that Scream 3 was in the works - told them Jim Carrey was interested in reprising the role.

Has he had a change of heart?

We are PRAYING for this to be true.
