Anyone seeking out their next true crime fix may want to get acquainted with a brand-new series, Accused: Guilty or Innocent?

Airing on Crime+Investigation, the series will give viewers an intimate glimpse at the lives of people alleged to have committed serious crimes.

Shown weekly from Tuesday 9th June at 10pm, each episode offers fascinating insight into what happens when someone is formally charged with a crime and sent to trial.

The seven-part series is presented from the perspective of the accused. Gathering accounts from the subject's legal team and family members, each episode follows the accused person's journey.

Episode one looks at the 2017 shooting of Beth (

Along the way, the series examines at the accused's legal defense, the trial and, of course, the eventual verdict.

As evidence mounts and the trial looms, these emotional stories paint a very real picture of what it is like when your freedom is on the line.

The series opens with the episode Wife Killer or Defence? (broadcast Tuesday 9th June at 10pm) which centres on the 2017 shooting death of Beth "Chandra" Lawson by her husband Bryan Steven Lawson.

Chandra was killed in the couple's living room and the prosecution believe that Bryan murdered his wife in cold blood in front of their toddler son.

Added to that, the shooting and the events leading up to it were caught on home surveillance camera.

The series gives incredible access to the accused and their representatives as they build up their defence (

But Bryan claims that after years of abuse, he was acting to protect himself and his young son - and that the video evidence will prove it.

Facing a potential sentence of 60 years in prison, Bryan and his legal team are shown as they build their defence.

Along the way, we are given extraordinary access to Bryan and his representatives as he faces significant challenges and revelations, some of which shake him to his foundations.

Ultimately, the episode hands on one question: was this a cold-blooded murder or a justified act of self-defence?
