If you're looking to fill the nature show-shaped void in your life while you wait for David Attenborough's next epic series (c'mon Dave, you're slacking), let us direct your attention to Absurd Planet, currently streaming on Netflix.

While the 12-part series has all the hallmarks of your average, wholesome nature show - breathtaking cinematography, unique and wonderful animals - there are some vital differences.

In fact, people are calling it one of the most "chaotic", "bonkers" and "bizarre" science series to ever air.

The series, which offers an insight into the lives of the planet's most intriguing animals, is narrated by Mother Nature herself (voiced by Afi Ekulona) alongside a quirky cast of animal characters.

A removal from Attenborough's fact-heavy nature offerings, with Absurd Planet, you'll get sitcom style animal banter, riske musings from Mother Nature and even musical numbers. We did warn you it was mad.

Viewers have watched absurd scenes such as pearl fishes swimming up sea cucumber's bums, tarantula-killing wasps, and a whole song about dung beetles loving poo.

The series, inspired by Wired magazine's 'Absurd Creature of the Week', is getting a lot of reaction online, with some calling it the "best nature show" they've ever watched.

"Absurd! Planet" on @netflix is the best and most chaotic show I've ever seen. I have no idea what I just watched," wrote one person.

"Absurd! Planet is the best nature show I've ever seen," agreed another. "Go watch absurd planet. By far the funniest show on Netflix," said a third.

"I just know they were high when making Absurd: Planet on netflix," mused another.

We don't know about you but this is going straight to the top of our watch list. Sounds epic.
