A Wedding Crashers Sequel Could Be Coming

More than 15 years has passed since we laughed and cringed at Wedding Crashers, which followed the misadventures John and Jeremy (played by Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson).

The divorce mediators and terminal bachelors won a place in our hearts for their antics, in which they'd sneak into weddings to meet women.

And there could be potentially more weddings for the duo to crash in the future.

Vince Vaughn discussed the potential for a sequel to the modern comedy classic with CinemaBlend's ReelBlend podcast. While it's just an idea at the moment, it's reassuring to know it is something that is being considered.

Creating a sequel to a beloved movie can be tricky, and Vince explains that previous attempts to make sequels to some of his other box office smash hit comedies felt motivated by the wrong reasons.

Fortunately, it seems the film's director, David Dobkin, has an updated concept that could be reason enough for Jeremy and John to crash another wedding.

"David Dobkin has a really good idea that's contemporary. I never went and made a sequel to a lot of these films at the time because it felt like we were just chasing a success," Vince said.

"But what I like about where [Wedding] Crashers could potentially be at is there's something that is of this moment that feels really good... a lot of these comedies even something like Wedding Crashers, you're sort of investigating things that I think are real in our lives, but the comedy in an overcommitment to the absurd."

Wedding Crashers featured an all star cast that included Rachel McAdams, Isla Fisher, Jane Seymour and Hollywood icon Christopher Walken. We also saw a cameo from Will Ferrell and Bradley Cooper - who at that point was still very much in the early stages of his career.

Having starred in Wedding Crashers, Dodgeball and Fred Claus, in more recent years Vince has had parts in more serious, dramatic projects such as Hacksaw Ridge and True Detective.

A sequel to Wedding Crashers is something that has been discussed and teased before. In 2014 David Dobkin revealed he planned a sequel in which James Bond star Daniel Craig would join the film as a competing crasher.

The closest thing we have had to a Wedding Crashers sequel is the music video for the 2014 Maroon 5 song 'Sugar' which showed the band crashing real-life weddings. It was also directed by David Dobkin.

Perhaps we'll see John and Jeremy crash a Zoom wedding in the future!
