Controversial Netflix show 13 Reasons Why is set for a third season - and it looks like it's going to return this October.

The news was announced by Zach Prusak, who plays Jock in the show.

He posted a picture of himself on Twitter, writing: "13 Reasons Why season 3. October 2019 ! Let's go ! #13ReasonsWhy #13ReasonsWhySeason3."

Netflix hasn't officially confirmed the news, but we're pretty sure it's accurate.

The show, which deals with a range of issues facing teenagers today, including suicide, rape and violence, has come under fire for displaying particularly graphic scenes.

The first season focused on the suicide of Hannah Baker, played by Katherine Langford, and the 13 reasons why she felt compelled to take her own life.

Each reason is documented in a cassette tape, which her former love interest Clay Jensen, played by Dylan Minnette, listens to throughout the series.

In the second season, Clay was haunted by Hannah's death, while her mother took the school to trial. The end of the season saw Tyler being brutally sexually assaulted in a particularly graphic and disturbing scene. It also showed Tyler deciding whether to commit a mass school shooting, and Clay convincing him not to go through with it.

The third season is expected to pick up from the events of the first and second seasons, although Katherine is not expected to appear as much as in the first and second seasons.

In an Instagram post last year, the actress said farewell to her character, writing: "'Hannah...I love you...and I let you go' Those are the words I was able to say six months ago, and now can finally share with you as my journey on @13reasonswhy has officially come to an END!

"As most of you know, this was my first ever job and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to tell Hannah's story so fully in season 1, and to be asked back for a season 2.

"Thankyou to @netflix@paramountpics @anoncontent , the incredible producers, creatives, cast and crew for making these last 2 years so special. And to all of you here - Thankyou for filling my life with love and light [sic].

"This show will always be a special part of my life, and regardless of whether Hannah is there or not, I know that I will continue to strive to do work that is meaningful and has a positive impact - whether that be in film, music, or any other form of art. There is a lot coming up this next year, and I can't wait to share it with you."
