It has been announced that the Sister Act Musical is set to get an exciting new face join the cast... None other than Whoopi Goldberg herself!

The original Deloris Van Cartier, who starred in both Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, will join the musical for a limited run of 39 shows in summer next year, running from July 29th-August 30th at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith.

She will be joined by Jennifer Saunders too, who is billed to play Mother Superior - what a stellar line up.

It has been 27 years since the Sister Act movie landed in the box office, but we imagine Whoopi has not forgotten how to play the bold charismatic singer Deloris, who is in hiding from her mobster boyfriend as a faux nun.

Whoopi won't however be joined by the original Mary Patrick and Mary Robert, Kathy Najimy and Wendy Makkena (

It was however first made into a musical back in 2006 in California, before showing all over the world, but has now been adapted by Jamie Wilson and Whoopi Goldberg, to make Deloris a little older and will return to the UK following a spring tour.

Producer Jamie Wilson said: "This is a very special one-off opportunity created just for London to see one of the most loved actors of our time playing the part she is so famous and so loved for."

"The addition of Jennifer means that Sister Act truly promises to be the ultimate night of laughs and smiles with two comedy greats."

The tickets start at £29.75, going up to £249.50 and are on sale now. But be aware, if you specifically want to catch Whoopi in action, she is performing all the shows except the Thursday matinee, which will be reprised by Brenda Edwards, who will play Deloris during the spring tour too. Jamie Wilson added: "I'm also thrilled that Brenda Edwards, who has been so instrumental in Whoopi agreeing to return to the stage, has been able to schedule her TV commitments so she can play Deloris on Thursday matinees. It really is going to be a brilliant summer."

Oh happy days.
