The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's son Archie has spoken publicly for the first time on the couple's new podcast for Spotify.

Little Archie, who turned one-year-old earlier this year, wished listeners a happy new year as parents Prince Harry and Meghan Markle laughed and applauded him.

And it appears the family's time out in California has influenced Archie's speech, with the young royal having a slight American accent as he spoke.

You can catch his adorable audio debut below.

The cute twist came as Harry and Meghan released the half-hour 'Holiday Special' of their new podcast Archewell Audio, which featured celebrity guests Elton John and James Corden, as the couple reflected on 2020 and hoped to "share lessons, reflections and hopes" for the new year.

Guests also chatted to the royals about personal anecdotes and their own unique life experiences.

The pair also paid tribute to those who had lost their lives during the coronavirus pandemic that has deeply altered life for millions across the globe.

Harry said: "We're glad you're here. As we all know, it's been a year. And we really want to honour the compassion and kindness that has helped so many people get through it."

Meghan added: "And at the same time, to honour those who have experienced uncertainty and unthinkable loss. Our thoughts have been with you, especially during this holiday season."

Harry and Meghan's new podcast comes as their first foray into new media, and has been released shortly after the pair signed a deal with streaming giant Netflix to produce new programming.

The big money deal will see the couple produce films and series, including scripted series, documentaries, films and children's programmes for the platform.

In a statement, Harry and Meghan said: "Our lives, both independent of each other and as a couple, have allowed us to understand the power of the human spirit: of courage, resilience, and the need for connection.

"Through our work with diverse communities and their environments, to shining a light on people and causes around the world, our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope.

"As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us, as is powerful storytelling through a truthful and relatable lens."

While the couple are getting involved behind the camera, Meghan, who starred in Suits, is not thought to be returning to her former career as an actor.
