Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan stormed off set live on air this morning, after colleague Alex Beresford challenged him over his comments about Meghan Markle.

The disagreement began not long after the show started, with Piers discussing Meghan and Harry's interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in the UK on Monday evening.

And when co-host Susanna Reid brought Alex into the chat, he described Piers' behaviour as "diabolical".

"They have had an overwhelming amount of negative press," said Alex.

"I watched it again yesterday and yes they had some great press around the wedding, but everything that has followed since has been damaging to Meghan's mental health.

"... I understand that you don't like Meghan Markle, you've made it so clear a number of times on this programme, and I understand you've got a personal relationship with Meghan Markle, or had one, and she cut you off if she wants to.

"Has she said anything about you since she cut you off? I don't think she has but yet you continue to trash her."

"OK, I'm done with this," says Piers, before getting up out of his seat and disappearing off set.

"This is absolutely diabolical behaviour," says Alex. "Piers spouts off on a regular basis and we all have to sit there and listen."

And viewers were quick to praise Alex for "standing up to Piers" with one writing: "Well done @alexberesfordTV someone needed to stand up to him & his mouth."

While another added: "Well done Alex. Very brave and admirable of you to hold him to account."

"Wow that's so powerful by Alex and brave, he shouldn't have to be but for a colleague to stand up in such a public way is what is needed to stop the hatred Piers spouts," wrote another.

Following yesterday's episode of Good Morning Britain, mental health charity Mind issued a statement explaining they were "concerned" over what Piers had said about Meghan.

"We were disappointed and concerned to see Piers Morgan's comments on not believing Meghan's experiences about suicidal thoughts today," the statement read.

"It's vital that when people reach out for support or share their experiences of ill mental health that they are treated with dignity, respect and empathy. We are in conversations with ITV about this at the moment."

After Piers stormed out, Susanna quickly announced an ad break. And it wasn't long before Piers was back in his chair.

Shortly after the spat, Meghan's father Thomas Markle appeared on the show, where he admitted to having lied to his daughter about selling stories to the press before Harry and Meghan's wedding.
