Ever since the New York Times released their breath-taking documentary film, Framing Britney Spears, the beloved 90's pop princess has been at the forefront of everyone's minds.

The one-off special shed light onto the murky circumstances surrounding the 39-year-old's controversial conservatorship, as well as the shocking sexism and misogyny she faced from the outset of her career.

And now, the BBC are following suit with their own documentary special, titled The Battle for Britney: Fans, Cash and a Conservatorship - dropping on Saturday (May 1st) on BBC iPlayer, before it airs on BBC Two on Wednesday 5th May at 9pm.

The 60 minute film, fronted by BAFTA-winning journalist Mobeen Azha, will be a deep dive into the conservatorship Britney Spears entered in to back in 2008 - and remains in place 'til this day.

Mobeen will journey from Los Angeles to Britney's hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana, untangling the complexities surrounding the legal contract, which sees Britney's father Jamie at the helm of her finances, health and even certain aspects of her personal life.

Mobeen will also speak to Britney's intense fanbase, who felt galvanised to create the now globally known #FreeBritney movement, as well as attending a court hearing along the way and finding himself in the midst of the ongoing battle between Britney's conservatorship team and her famously passionate supporters.

He sets out to speak to those on both sides of the fence surrounding the still-unfolding story of one of pop's biggest ever superstars.

The film includes never-before-seen interviews with Britney's makeup artist Billy Brasfield, her former choreographer Brian Friedman, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton and lawyer Lisa MacCarley among others.

Britney's court battle to transfer her conservatorship away from her father's control is still raging - with the Toxic singer now set to address the courts directly for the first time in a new hearing.

The pop star will appear before a judge on June 23rd, amid her ongoing battle to have her father, Jamie Spears, removed as her conservator.

Speaking during a hearing on Tuesday, CNN report that the singer's lawyer, Sam Ingham III, said she's now keen to "address the court directly".
