Geri Halliwell Reveals We've Been Singing Our Favourite Spice Girls Lyric Wrong

Geri Halliwell has revealed that Spice Girls fans have been singing the chant from Spice Up Your Life wrong for 21 years.

Spice Girls fans you might want to sit down for this one, as Geri Horner has revealed you've been singing your favourite lyric wrong for 21 years.

Last night, after the Spice Girls reunion tour was announced, Geri tweeted: "Hai Si Ja hold tight!", a lyric that we thought was completely different from their 1997 hit 'Spice Up Your Life'.

Over the years there has been a bit of confusion about the chant in the song, with plenty of fans thinking it was 'I see ya, hold tight' or 'Hi C ya, hold tight', but it turns out we've been wrong all along.

Now, I guess we have an excuse for this as in 1997 it wasn't really common for people to be able to Google a song and find out the lyrics.

Yes, we had the little lyric books that came with the CD, but did anyone really remember everything they read from those?

It turns out our favourite 90s girl band were actually trying to show off their multi-lingual skills in the chant.

'Hai' is yes in Japanese, 'Si' is yes in Italian or Spanish and 'Ja' is yes in Germany. So basically they're just saying, 'Yes yes yes, hold tight!'

This isn't the first time the Spice Girls have used other languages in their songs.

In their 1997 classic, 'Viva Forever', the girls sang 'Hasta manana' which was Spanish for 'see you later'.

Yesterday, the four piece announced that they would be returning for a six date reunion tour.

Geri, Mel B, Emma, and Mel C will be visiting Manchester, Coventry, Sunderland, Edinburgh, Bristol and London in June next year, with support from Jess Glynne.

Unfortunately, due to other commitments, Victoria Beckham won't be joining the girls on tour.

Posh Spice broke her silence on the reunion tour with an Instagram post last night, wishing them 'a lot of love and fun'.

She wrote: "Today marks a special day for the girls as they announce the first tour dates since we performed together in 2012!

"I won't be joining my girls on stage again but being in the Spice Girls was a hugely important part of my life and I wish them so much love and fun as they go back on tour next year.

"I know they will put on an amazing show and the fantastic fans past and present are going to have a wonderful time!"
