Elf proved that any Christmas production with Will Ferrell's name attached is bound to be a corker - so we're super excited with the news he'll starring alongside Ryan Reynolds in a musical version of A Christmas Carol.
Christmas has truly come early.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the adaptation of Charles Dicken's classic novella will be a "musical reimagining" written and directed by Sean Anders and John Morris, who were behind Daddy's Home (2015).

A Christmas Carol follows the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, an old man known for his miserable ways.
On the night before Christmas, Scrooge is visited by ghosts including his old business partner, Jacob Marley, the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Yet to Come.
All of the ghosts show Scrooge his mean ways and how his behaviour has affected those around him. At the end of the story, Scrooge discovers there is still time for him to change his ways and he becomes a kind-hearted, loving man.

At the end of the story he is relieved to discover that there is still time for him to change and we see him transformed into a generous and kind-hearted human being.
It's not yet clear whether Will Ferrel, 52, or Ryan Reynolds, 42, will be taking on the misery guts but we're banking on the former. We can imagine the Anchorman star doing a brilliant job.
The musical will be produced by Gloria Sanchez, the sister company of Ferrell's Gary Sanchez Productions, Reynolds' Maximum Effort and Mosaic, while Anders and Morris will direct.
There have been a few notable adaptations of A Christmas Carol over the years including Bill Murray's 1988 comedy Scrooged and the 1992 movie The Muppet Christmas Carol.
