There's nothing worse than leaving your pooch behind when you go on holiday.

But now, one man has made it his mission to give his pups a getaway experience of their own by creating dog caravans.

Paul Watson started building miniature pet holiday homes in 2017 for his doggos, eight-year-old Bichon, Max and six-year-old Lhasa Apso cross, Ted.

It might be just a hobby, but soon, 48-year-old Paul, who is a school technician, started receiving requests from all over the world from owners looking for a motorhome-themed bed for their pampered pups.

"I have made a few, all vans are different, I don't use templates or jigs they are all made by hand and are all different as it depends on the size of the dog," he explained.

"We are keen caravanners and love going away in our very own tourer with the dogs so I decided to make our lads a caravan of their own for a dog bed.

"I work in a school and I think it's great to show students some creative ideas which anyone can do if they put their mind to it.

"They just need a bit of encouragement and I love making different things - especially for our dogs.

"I start making them in my workshop and once they are at the finishing stage I move them into the living room to finish off.

"The general response has been fantastic. It's fair to say I have combined two of our passions - caravanning and dogs."

Aptly named 'K9 Leisure' the vans vary in size and price and are available in different colours and designs. *And* you can even opt for a private number plate. Who wouldn't want to treat their pup to that?

Prices usually range between £250 ($325) to £400 ($520) plus postage.

They don't just look good, either. While the indoor vans are made from MDF and covered in plastic, Paul can also make wooden versions for outside.

They have fully functioning sunroofs and the windows even have tiny paw prints cut into them to allow air to flow through. The bespoke canine caravans also feature a LED light inside.

"I have had requests from all over the world, America, Spain, France and Australia," he said.

"I have never followed them through due to posting costs but it's still nice to be asked. I have to remember it's just a hobby though.

"I wouldn't give up my job to do this full time as they take too long to make because they're handmade and I try to keep prices low. If I was to charge by the hour they would cost a fortune.

"I get great joy seeing my products being used all over the country with loads of happy K9 campers in their unique handmade dog beds."

Paul, if you ever go full time with it, you've got a customer in us!
