It may have been a year that has seen many of us stuck inside thanks to the coronavirus crisis, but that doesn't mean we've been short of pop-culture a plenty.

And a poll of Tyla readers have found that everyone's favourite parrot, Chanel the African Grey, has topped the list of the most iconic pop culture moments with 36.5 per cent of the vote.

While we were all told to 'stay at home', one woman had plenty of reasons to keep walking the streets.

Chanel became a national news story when one day in the summer, she decided to fly away from home.

But it was Chanel's 'mam' Sandra that was the real star of the story, after she filmed herself walking around outside trying to find Chanel by loudly calling out her name.

"Please everyone... my parrot's gone," she told viewers of the video that she posted to social media.

Thankfully, Chanel, full name Chanel Chanellington, was later found and reunited with its owner - but not before the pair had gone viral.

Viewers described lively Liverpudlian Sandra as "an icon" and "my new idol".

Sandra thanked everyone who helped find her parrot in a later video, saying: "If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have found her."

It was a close contest between Chanel and second place in our poll, with Nigella Lawson's new cookery season Eat, Cook, Repeat providing one of the most talked about TV moments of the year.

The sexy chef, 60, left social media in uproar after she pronounced microwave as mee-cro-wah-vay, and while she has since cleared up the matter as a joke, it hasn't stopped us from calling our microwaves by its posh new moniker.

Third place went to former Love Island star Zara McDermott, who tearfully told her boyfriend Sam Thompson "HE CAN" take her back after she confessed to cheating on him on Made In Chelsea.

And it wouldn't have been 2020 without a nod to Selling Sunset, with Davina Potratz's now infamous $75 million listing still for sale.

What a year it's been!
