It took us a while to come to terms with the fact Stormzy and Maya Jama had split - and when we heard the rapper's latest song about the break-up, 'Lessons' - well, let's just say we shed more than a tear or two.

While the lyrics of the track seem to allude to cheating, Stormzy has now explained in a new interview that he, in fact, wasn't unfaithful to Maya, 25 - adding that he "wants to marry" the presenter and would "love to reconcile".

The 26-year-old sat down with Charlamagne Tha God in a YouTube interview and revealed his true feelings about the BBC Radio 1 presenter.

Stormzy, who still admits to "publicly embarrassing and disrespecting" her after they broke up, couldn't stop praising his ex during the chat. And honestly, it's very sweet.

The rapper described her as "an amazing woman" and a "star girl" before gushing about her successful career, listing her achievements and admitting he wants to marry her.

When asked if he still loves her, he said: "With all my heart, 100 per cent. Maya is an amazing woman, there is nothing more I could ask for, she is incredible, the pedestal I put her on, she's amazing.

"I didn't even know you could break your own heart breaking someone else's heart. I'm a grown man, I'm a f***ing idiot, 100 per cent.

"I love her more than anything, I love her, I've never loved anyone how I love her. I would love [to reconcile], I would love to do all the things to make this work, I wanna marry her, all of that."

Referring to the lyrics 'I was pacing round my kitchen', Stormzy explained: "I was pacing up and down for days thinking f*** sake, this one reckless night, all of those things - marriage, kids, the love of my life - now you probably won't ever...you've lost it."

"She's a TV presenter, BBC Radio 1 presenter, she does amazing brand deals, she's like the star girl, she is a phenomenal girl [...] She's smashing it."

Addressing speculation that he cheated during the relationship, Stormzy clarified: "I didn't cheat, I was out publicly and we had broken up, being very inconsiderate to the fact I'd just come out of the most public relationship.

"No one was in a more public relationship than me or my Mrs at the time. We was the most public relationship in Britain apart from Harry and Meghan.

"We broke up, I went out and I acted disrespectfully. I was out in clubs, bare faced, while I knew the world still thought I was in a relationship, looking like I didn't give a f*ck. I didn't cheat, it wasn't cheating, but it didn't need to be cheating for it to be a disrespect."

The rapper also added that Maya "appreciated him taking accountability" by releasing the break-up song.

Can these two just get back together already?
