Noel Fielding debuted a much shorter 'do on Tuesday's Great British Bake Off, but fans of the show weren't quite sure what to make of his dramatic new look.

The comedian switched his iconic shaggy, black shoulder-length locks in favour of a sleek and cropped cut, complete with a pair of dazzling sideburns for the first episode of the series.

But his lack of hair seemed to concern GBBO fans who were watching the first episode of the season, and they all flocked to Twitter declaring a 'national emergency'.

"I have fancied Noel Fielding since I was 15 years old but I just don't know if I can get on board with that hair," declared one person.

And a second reflected: "Can we all take a moment to remember Noel's goth hair days?"

"What has happened to Noel's hair? Is Mary Berry holding it to ransom in a last ditch attempt at sabotage?" joked a third Bake Off fan.

Not everyone was so negative about the new dad's 'do, as it drew in hordes of comparisons to music legend, Elvis Presley.

"Noel looks really good with his new hair do & side burns, very Elvis," announced another a fan, with somebody else sharing: "I love the new barnet. Plus Noel's eyeliner is seriously on fleek [sic]."

"Noel has swapped his goth hair for Elvis inspired sideburns, I like it," exclaimed a third.

While the comedian's hair cut came as a shock to Great British Bake Off fans, he actually first introduced the world to his shorter locks on Twitter way back in March this year, ahead of the birth of his first child with partner Lliana Bird.

It is no coincidence that Noel's haircut was compared to Elvis', as he captioned the older snap: "Uh huh," posing for a selfie.

Noel has rejoined Bake Off present the show for a second year alongside Sandi Toksvig, as well as judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.

Great British Bake Off continues on Channel 4 at 8pm on Tuesdays.
