Love Island’s Chris Taylor And Harley Brash Just Gave Us A Masterclass In Breakups

There's no denying that in general break-ups can be hellish, and if you're in the public eye they're bound to be ten times harder.

Take Chloe Ferry's tearful break-up with Sam Gowland, where she sobbed her eyes out on her Instagram story about his alleged 'cheating' with a fellow reality star.

Or Paul Hollywood's highly public split from girlfriend Summer Monteys-Fulham, in which sources close to the pair both took it in turns to slam each other after he asked her to sign an NDA.

While it's tough enough calling time on a romance you once thought had potential, throw scandalous headlines and stalking paparazzi into the mix and we can't even imagine how painful it must be. Nobody needs to see who their ex is snogging in the club, or hear what they've been saying behind their back, after all, do they?

So, when we saw Love Island's Chris Taylor announce that he was no longer dating Harley Brash on Monday in the most mature way ever, our faith was restored in humanity.

While splits - both celeb and civilian - often turn into slandering matches, instead Chris wrote a sensitive and thoughtful message to his ex, proving that while the world is desperate to conjure up drama between them, there's no hard feelings.

In a statement on his Instagram, he confirmed that they had finally decided to part ways at the weekend, despite false tabloid rumours having circulated for days prior.

"A serious post for once guys," the reality star wrote. "I'm sad to say that both Harley and I have parted ways and came to this decision last night, despite rumours from the media last week. Both of us have been very busy with separate opportunities and haven't had enough quality time for each other.

"We both have the upmost support and respect for one another and the decision was made amicably. I wish her all the best and will always be glad we rode the Love Island adventure together. I will be very proud of everything she has done and everything she'll do️."

Addressing Harley directly, he affectionately signed off: "The future is bright crumpet go get em!"

And it wasn't just us that found Chris' approach to the whole situation a breath of fresh air - fans of the show were quick to flood to the comments and commend his "classy" announcement.

"What a gentleman," one of his followers wrote underneath, while another added:
"Upmost respect for both @christophertaylorofficial and @harley_brash for doing what makes you both happy!

A third wrote: "Well said @christophertaylorofficial ️ nice to see that despite being thrown into the public eye so quickly, you've still had the respect to write this post x wish you both well x".

Poor Harley and Chris hardly had an easy start to their romance, seeing as people have been speculating about who would be the first Love Island couple to break up from the moment the show ended.

They're not the only islanders to be hit with split rumours. Front pages recently showed pictures of a glum looking Molly-Mae Hague walking the streets alone and strongly hinted at a split from Tommy Fury - despite the fact they were with each other five minutes prior.

Plus, Anton Danyluk and Belle Hassan were doomed by many before they even left the villa as trolls on Twitter slammed their chances of going long distance.

Of course, to some extent, celebrities know what they're getting themselves into when they go on a dating show. It's understandable that we're going to be fascinated in their romances seeing as we were invested in them for weeks, but surely we should at least give them a chance before we pounce and pull them apart

Your relationship ending can be hard enough without having to worry about announcing it to thousands of invested fans. But despite the difficult circumstances, Chris' statement has highlighted that a relationship ending doesn't have to be messy.

Perhaps we could all do well to take a leaf from his book.
