I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here's Anne Hegerty was on the cusp of becoming homeless before she found quiz fame on The Chase.

The Governess has spoken candidly about living with autism, having been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome in 2007.

While it can be hard to understand the profound effect Asperger's has had on Anne's life, she recently revealed the true extent the diagnosis had as she almost became homeless.

She told Stuff magazine how the condition meant she struggled to keep on top of her accounts and although she used to work as a freelance proof reader, she was forced to give it up when it all became too much for her.

"I just simply couldn't keep it going and the result was I wasn't paying my bills," she explained. "But I was trying not to go on benefits on the grounds that I just thought that was sort of giving up. I wasn't giving up."

It wasn't until she received a visit from the Housing Association that Anne was offered some help.

"She was stepping over piles of unopened mail and realised we had a problem," she recalled. "She said 'we'll fix this, I will get someone to help you.'"

Anne was then assigned to a social worker, who helped her sort out her bills and cope with everyday life. The chaser was also put on the Disability Living Allowance which assists people living with disabilities to live their everyday lives.

Speaking of her diagnosis during the I'm A Celeb launch, Anne explained: "When you've grown up always knowing that there's something that seemed to be different about you from most people and not being able to understand until my mid-forties that what we were talking about here was autism.

"I've had to learn an awful let about myself and what I can and can't do and what I can or can't cope with."

I'm A Celeb continues tonight at 9pm on ITV.
