Justin Timberlake has apologised for his past behaviour in the wake of the Framing Britney Spears documentary.

The 40-year-old star broke his silence in a lengthy statement on Friday, in which he said he was sorry for his behaviour towards his ex-girlfriend Britney.

He said: "I am deeply sorry for the times in my life where my actions contributed to the problem, when I spoke out of turn, or did not speak up for what was right. I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others, and benefited from a system that condones misogyny and racism."

Fans said they were 'disgusted' and 'appalled' by Justin's casual remarks about taking his girlfriend's virginity which aired in the documentary this week. You can watch them here:

In the 2002 radio interview with Star and Buc Wild, Justin was asked whether he had "f***ed" Britney (their words, not ours), to which Justin laughingly replied: "Okay, yeah, I did it."

His lewd comments come after one talking head described Justin's video to his hit Cry Me A River as "weaponising the narrative against Britney", and making "the classic male revenge fantasy."

Britney fans were not happy with Justin's comments, with many taking to Twitter to deride the former NSYNC singer for talking about something that's supposedly private.

Justin also took the opportunity to apologise to Janet Jackson, in the wake of their now-infamous 2004 Super Bowl performance in which she suffered a "wardrobe malfunction".
