Ashton Kutcher just tweeted his *actual* phone number so that his fans can text him, and naturally he's broken the internet.

The Just Married start shared his digits on Tuesday night, telling his Twitter followers that he was missing having "a real connection with real people".

"I miss having a real connection w/real people. My Community," read the now-deleted tweeted. "From now on you can just text me. I won't be able to respond to everyone but at least we can be real w/ each other & I can share the unedited latest & greatest in my world."

Ashton then shared his personal phone number at the end of the post, before declaring: "Yes this is my#."

A flurry of social media users, who were probably quick to send declarations of undying love to Ashton via text, reported getting an underwhelming automated message in response.

"Hey it's Ashton," read the reply. "This is an auto text to let you know I got your message, everything else will be from me."

It continued: "Make sure you click on the link and add yourself to my phone so I can respond to you."

Ashton then added: "I will repost soon... sms is a fragile beast."

However, just when you thought that Ashton wanted to listen to all your dating woes and be your best friend, our hopes have been dashed as Wired Magazine reports that the actor may have an ulterior motive for sharing his digits with fans.

The publication says that the link in Ashton's automated reply takes you to a sign up page for start-up called Community.com.

Here, you are asked to fill in your details (name, birth date, city, etc.), and the terms and conditions for the website reportedly say that it aims to 'provide clients (including influencers, musicians, athletes, brands, actors and their agents) to send and receive text messages from users... using a ten-digit Community Phone Number'.

Looks like it might not be what it seems, after all.
