Amy Schumer has decided to change her 11-month-old son's name after explaining it sounded too much like 'genital'.

The actress, 38 and her husband Chris Fischer, welcomed their baby son last May and decided to name him Gene Attell Fischer.

The middle name was chosen after Amy's best friend, American comedian Dave Attell. However, Amy has since revealed that 'Gene Attell' sounds a little too similar to 'Genital'.

Amy revealed the news on her '3 Girls, 1 Keith' podcast, explaining: "Do you guys know that Gene, our baby's name is officially changed? It's now Gene David Fischer.

"It was Gene Attell Fischer, but we realised that we, by accident, named our son 'Genital'."

And it seems Amy and Chris weren't the only ones who had made the connection, after podcast guest Claudia O'Doherty revealed her mum had actually spotted it too.

"My mum pointed that out to me, 'Amy's called her son 'Genital'', and she was right!" She said. LOL.

Amy later referenced the mishap again on Instagram, posting a snap of her and husband, Chris captioned: "Oh, like you never named your kid Genital fissure!!!!!"

The actress explained her Dad is also called David, so it made sense to go for Dave Attell's first name, instead.

Amy and Chris first announced the arrival of baby Gene almost a year ago, with an adorable snap of Chris cuddling his newborn son.

"Gene Attell Fischer And his dad Chris," Amy wrote at the time.

Baby Gene will celebrate his first birthday next month, on 6th May, which also coincides with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's son, Archie's birthday.

Earlier this year, Amy opened up about her experience of IVF treatment in a candid Instagram post.

She revealed to her 9.5 million Instagram followers that she was undergoing the treatment.

Sharing an image of her bruised stomach, Amy wrote: "I'm a week into IVF and feeling really run down and emotional.

"If anyone went through it and if you have any advice or wouldn't mind sharing your experience with me please do. My number is in my bio. We are freezing my eggs and figuring out what to do to give Gene a sibling."

Updating followers a few weeks later, she took to Instagram once again to reveal some of her IVF results.

"Hey! So ivf went like this for us. They retrieved 35 eggs from me. Not bad for the old gal right? Then 26 fertilized! Whoah right?

"For all of those we got 1 normal embryo from that and 2 low level mosaic (mosaic means there are some abnormal cells but can still lead to a healthy baby) So we feel lucky we got 1!"

Many of Amy's followers praised the star for speaking so candidly about IVF, opening up about her experience and the difficult side of treatment.
