Get the tissues at the ready because the sequel to beloved novel PS, I Love You called Postscript will reveal tear-jerking "new memories" of Gerry and Holly's relationship, seven years after his death.

Ceceila Ahern's debut book told the story of Holly, who after losing her husband Gerry finds a trove notes he's written for her, one for each of the months after his death, signed "PS, I Love You" to help her grieve.

The Irish author confirmed in March that she would release a follow-up to the bestselling fiction, which begins seven years after his death and six years since Holly has read his last letter.

Speaking to Stylist about revisiting the pair's story, Cecelia said that Holly, who is now in a positive place and in love, is approached by a group of terminally ill individuals after she appears on a podcast with her sister discussing Gerry's death.

The group, who call themselves the 'PS, I Love You Club', have been "inspired by her story" and ask for her help to write similar letters Gerry left her in the wake of his death for their loved ones.

However, it means she's forced to revisit her grief and the love she had for Gerry.

The author said: "I wanted to flip Holly's experience, so she is now in Gerry's position, helping to write letters for others. In order to give the 'PS I Love You Club' a positive experience she needs to analyse her own.

"Was it all entirely positive? Would she change anything? She's forced to look at the letters Gerry left for her in a new way; the reasons why he wrote them, what they really meant, and she examines if they were the right letters for her: did they help her or hold her back?

Getting "sucked back into the past", Holly struggles with revisiting the past as the book introduces new memories of their relationship.

"I also wanted to bring Gerry back by adding new memories of their relationship, which explain why he left particular letters for her and I also go more into who they were as a couple," added Cecelia.

Ahern was just 21 when she wrote the bestseller, which was quickly made into a film adaption starring Hilary Swank as Holly and Gerard Butler as Gerry.

Postscript is set to be released by Harper Collins on 19th September.
