The Handmaid's Tale season 4 and new Love Island are both coming this June - what a time to be alive!

Channel 4 has just confirmed the new The Handmaid's Tale will air on 20th June at 9pm for UK viewers, after the latest instalment of the popular series was released in the US on 28th April.

The June release date is much earlier than originally anticipated, with executive producer Warren Littlefield previously saying the show wouldn't be out until autumn.

The popular dystopian series, which is based on Margaret Atwood's bestselling novel, takes the audience to Gilead, a totalitarian state which used to be part of America. It's where women like Offred (a handmaid) are seen as property of the state and are there to fulfil one purpose only: to reproduce.

Spoiler alert: if you haven't seen the season 3 finale, skip the next two paragraphs.

Season 3 left viewers clinging onto hope that Offred would be okay after being shot in the shoulder. Offred (whose real name is June Osborne) devises a dangerous plan to rescue children in Gilead and send them to Canada by plane.

Armed with a gun, June shoots a Gilead guard in the face and takes a bullet in the shoulder herself. Mayday - the resistance movement - takes shape as more handmaids and Marthas join forces and help June to take the children to safety.

The first trailer for season 4 was dropped in June last year. You can watch it in the video player below:
