Couple Put Their £5.25 Million Mansion In A Raffle With Tickets Costing £13.50

Every time there's a raffle at a get together, we'll spend a quid on a ticket but it's only out of politeness. As the winners are being announced we feel a glimmer of hope but in the back of our mind we always think it's a waste of time and money - we're never going to win.

Admittedly, sometimes we tell ourselves that in the hope of jinxing it. Especially if it's our favourite bottle of wine or chocolates. Not so much when the only thing left is some tat that's going to clutter the living room.

And speaking of tat, this couple are raffling their luxury six-bedroom mansion in north London with four acres of land and a lake containing 2,000 fish.

The owners, Nigel and Melanie Walsh, are selling Dancers Hill House - a Georgian grade II listed property worth more than £5.25million ($67.6m)

They made the decision after struggling with the property market, Brexit and Stamp Duty. Bold move.

And how much can you get a ticket for I hear you scream - the bargain price of £13.50 ($17.40). So, one less takeaway and you could have yourself a mansion.

According to the Mirror, the stately home is spread across more than 7,500 square foot of land and has a cinema room, gym and wine room. Now then, a wine room is something we could comfortably get on board with.

We might not be able to fill the wardrobes or the kitchen cupboards, not to mention furnishing each room. But a wine room is a whole different ball game.

Ms Walsh explained: "It is time to move on, and it will be heart wrenching because this is a part of me... it has been a joy, we have had some great fun.

"There is just the two of us now - 7,500 square feet for two people - I mean it is funny, but it is crazy, we just don't fill it anymore. I just got the feeling the house needed a new family, a new chapter. It has had a fantastic life."

The mum-of-three said the couple bought the house in November 1992 in the 'most derelict state'.

Since being renovated, the couple have held birthdays, family gatherings and even their son's wedding at the manor.

Those entering the competition have to answer a question - 'who was the reigning Monarch on Christmas Day, the year Dancers Hill House was built?'.

Google anyone?

The draw will be done at random, with the closing date for the raffle on 16 December later this year or earlier, if all 600,000 tickets are sold. Yes you're going up against 600,000.

You may be thinking 'but I can't afford to live there' - simple. Sell up. The property will be legally yours, you can do what you please with it.

And there's no limit on how many tickets you can buy - at £13.50 each we're not getting too many though.
